CD Projekt Red may be preparing to take The Witcher franchise in an entirely new direction, according to newly surfaced development leaks that point to an ambitious free to play multiplayer project currently in production.
The unannounced title is reportedly being developed in partnership with mobile gaming giant Scopely and is designed for both PC and mobile platforms. If accurate, it would mark one of the biggest departures from CD Projekt Red’s traditionally single player focused approach.
According to leaked documentation, the game is set during the Golden Age of Witchers in the year 1230, several decades before the events of the main Witcher saga and long before the birth of Geralt of Rivia.
A Monster Hunter Inspired Witcher Experience
The project is said to feature a cooperative gameplay structure inspired by Capcom’s hugely successful Monster Hunter franchise.
Players will reportedly create their own custom Witcher, choose a Witcher school, and team up with friends to hunt dangerous creatures across a variety of regions throughout the Continent. Leaked information suggests players will need to carefully prepare for each hunt by crafting potions, applying blade oils, and selecting the right signs to exploit enemy weaknesses.
The game is also expected to feature large scale monster encounters, diverse biomes, and a combat system focused heavily on skill based action rather than traditional RPG stat progression.
Reported Features
• Custom Witcher character creation
• Choice of Witcher schools and specializations
• Four player cooperative monster hunts
• Multiple regions and environmental biomes
• Tactical preparation systems involving signs, potions, and oils
• Free to play business model
• Planned PC and mobile release
Current reports suggest the title is targeting a launch window sometime in late 2027 or early 2028.
Multiplayer Isn’t The Only Witcher Project In Development
The leaked project is only one part of CD Projekt Red’s rapidly expanding Witcher roadmap.
Development also continues on Project Sirius, a separate Witcher spin off being created by The Molasses Flood. Following a major reboot, Sirius is expected to combine a narrative driven single player campaign with cooperative PvE gameplay.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red remains heavily invested in traditional single player experiences.
The Witcher 4 (Project Polaris)
The next major entry in the franchise is currently in full production using Unreal Engine 5. The game will serve as the beginning of a brand new Witcher trilogy and is believed to be the studio’s largest ongoing project.
The Witcher Remake
Originally known as Project Canis Majoris, the remake is being developed by Fool’s Theory and will completely rebuild the 2007 classic using modern technology and an open world structure.
Songs of the Past Expansion
CD Projekt Red recently surprised fans by announcing a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The content is expected to arrive on modern platforms and continue support for one of the most celebrated RPGs ever made.
A Bigger Future For The Witcher Franchise
If the reported multiplayer project proves real, it would represent CD Projekt Red’s most aggressive attempt yet to expand The Witcher beyond traditional RPGs.
With a new trilogy, a full remake, multiple multiplayer projects, and fresh expansions all in development, the studio appears to be positioning The Witcher as a long term multimedia franchise capable of reaching audiences across premium, mobile, and live service gaming markets.
For now, however, CD Projekt Red has yet to officially announce the project, meaning fans should treat the leaked details as unconfirmed until more information emerges.
