Pearl Abyss has revealed it is actively exploring the possibility of bringing Crimson Desert to Nintendo’s next generation hardware, following the game’s strong commercial performance since launch.
According to the company’s CEO, early research and development is already underway to assess whether a version of the open world action RPG could run on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. While no official announcement has been made, the comments confirm that internal discussions and technical evaluations are in progress.
The news comes as Crimson Desert continues to build momentum in the market, with sales approaching five million copies worldwide. Despite some mixed early reviews, the game has found a large audience, driven by its expansive world, dynamic combat system, and emphasis on exploration.
However, a potential Switch 2 version would not be a straightforward port. Pearl Abyss acknowledged that the hardware will likely be less powerful than current generation consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. As a result, any version designed for Nintendo’s platform would require significant optimisation and possible compromises to visuals, performance, or overall scale.
This raises questions about how the studio would adapt one of its most technically ambitious titles to a more limited system. The developer has experience in scaling its technology across platforms, but Crimson Desert’s size and complexity present a unique challenge.
For now, the project remains in its early stages. There is no confirmed release window, and Pearl Abyss has not committed to fully developing the port. Instead, the company appears to be taking a cautious approach, focusing first on feasibility before making any final decisions.
In the meantime, the studio’s priority remains improving the core experience of Crimson Desert on existing platforms. Rather than rushing into additional monetisation or major expansions, Pearl Abyss is continuing to refine the game through updates as it looks to sustain long term player engagement.
If the Switch 2 version does move forward, it could significantly expand the game’s reach and introduce a new audience to one of 2026’s most talked about releases. For now, it stands as a strong possibility, but one that is still far from confirmed.
