PlayStation Rumors Suggest inFAMOUS Could Finally Return

After more than a decade of silence, the inFAMOUS franchise may finally be showing signs of life again.

A wave of new rumors surrounding the beloved PlayStation superhero series has begun spreading across the gaming industry, with multiple reports suggesting that “something inFAMOUS related” could currently be in development inside Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The speculation began after Video Games Chronicle journalist Jordan Middler mentioned on a recent podcast that he had heard chatter about a potential return for the franchise. While the information was reportedly based on a single source and remains unconfirmed, the comments quickly sparked widespread discussion online.

Interestingly, the rumor reportedly suggests the project may not be happening at Sucker Punch Productions itself, leading many fans to believe PlayStation could be handing the series to another internal studio for a remake or remaster.

That possibility has fueled heavy speculation that the original PS3 era inFAMOUS games could finally be returning on modern hardware.

The timing would certainly make sense.

Over the past several years, PlayStation has leaned heavily into reviving older franchises through remakes and remasters, including titles like Demon’s Souls, The Last of Us Part I, Until Dawn, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Many fans now believe inFAMOUS feels like one of the most obvious remaining candidates for a modern comeback.

Originally released in 2009, inFAMOUS quickly became one of PlayStation’s standout exclusive franchises thanks to its open world gameplay, destructive superpowered combat, and morality system that allowed players to shape protagonist Cole MacGrath into either a hero or villain.

The series later expanded with inFAMOUS 2, followed by inFAMOUS Second Son and First Light on PS4. Despite Second Son selling well and becoming one of the early showcase titles for the console, the franchise has remained dormant since 2014.

Part of the reason fans are taking these rumors seriously is because developers at Sucker Punch have previously spoken openly about wanting to revisit the series someday.

Creative director Nate Fox previously said he would “love” to return to inFAMOUS and also expressed interest in seeing the original trilogy re released on PS5 hardware. Those comments are now being revisited by fans as speculation around the franchise continues to grow.

There is also growing discussion about what form a comeback could actually take.

Some fans believe a simple remaster would be enough, while others argue the original games would benefit more from a full remake using modern technology. Online discussions have focused heavily on how current hardware could massively improve the destruction systems, traversal, lighting, crowd density, and large scale electrical powers that defined the original games.

Others have even speculated that PlayStation could completely reboot the franchise rather than continue the original storyline.

At the moment, however, it is important to remember that nothing has been officially confirmed.

There is currently:
• no announcement
• no trailer
• no confirmed developer
• and no confirmation that a remake, remaster, reboot, or sequel actually exists.

Still, after years of almost complete silence, this is easily the biggest sign yet that PlayStation may finally be preparing to bring inFAMOUS back from the dead.
