The Legend of Khiimori Brings a Unique Horseback Adventure to PC Early Access

A new open world adventure is inviting players to explore the vast landscapes of medieval Mongolia in a way few games have attempted before. The Legend of Khiimori, developed by Aesir Interactive and NightinGames and published by Mindscape, has launched in Early Access on PC, introducing a travel focused experience built around horseback exploration, survival mechanics, and the culture of the Mongolian steppe.

Set during the 13th century, the game places players in the role of a courier working within the historic Mongolian Yam postal network. Instead of following traditional quest driven gameplay or combat heavy missions, players travel across an expansive wilderness delivering messages, supplies, and important goods between distant settlements. The focus is on planning journeys across rugged terrain, navigating unpredictable weather, and building a strong bond with the horse that carries you across the steppe.

Unlike many open world titles that prioritize combat encounters, The Legend of Khiimori centers its gameplay around the relationship between rider and horse. Each mount has its own abilities and needs, requiring players to manage stamina, injuries, hydration, and equipment weight while traveling long distances. Horses can also be bred and trained, allowing players to develop mounts suited for different types of terrain or missions.

The game’s world is inspired by real Mongolian landscapes and features sweeping grasslands, mountainous regions, deserts, and remote wilderness areas where roads are scarce or nonexistent. Players are encouraged to chart their own routes through the environment, reading the terrain and choosing paths that balance speed, safety, and endurance.

Survival elements also play a key role during long journeys. Players must gather resources, craft supplies, set up camps, and occasionally hunt wildlife for food and materials. While archery is present, it is used primarily for hunting and resource gathering rather than large scale combat encounters.

Progression in The Legend of Khiimori is tied to expanding your reputation as a courier and developing a nomadic camp that grows as you complete deliveries and explore new areas. The Early Access period will allow the developers to refine mechanics, expand the world, and introduce additional features based on player feedback.

The concept has drawn attention for its unusual focus on travel and environmental immersion. Rather than presenting players with constant action, the experience emphasizes the journey itself, encouraging a slower paced exploration of a historically inspired world.

With Early Access now underway on PC, the developers plan to continue expanding the game over time, with full releases on consoles expected once development reaches its final stages.
