A new indie horror game called NO BACKUP has officially entered Steam Early Access, and it’s already drawing attention for its tense bodycam presentation, proximity voice chat, and brutal survival gameplay.
Developed by solo creator Serundeox, NO BACKUP drops players into abandoned environments as part of a tactical response unit tasked with investigating dangerous locations while being hunted by hostile creatures lurking in the dark. The game supports up to four players online and focuses heavily on immersion, communication, and resource management.

Unlike many co-op horror games that lean into arcade-style chaos, NO BACKUP aims for a slower and more grounded experience. The game uses a realistic bodycam perspective complete with shaky movement, limited visibility, and minimal HUD elements to create the feeling of watching raw found footage.
One of the game’s standout features is its proximity voice chat system. Players must communicate carefully while exploring because enemies can reportedly hear nearby voices and react to noise. This creates tense moments where panic and poor coordination can quickly spiral into disaster.
The Early Access build currently includes several dark and atmospheric locations ranging from abandoned buildings to underground facilities. Players must scavenge for ammo, batteries, and medical supplies while completing objectives and avoiding deadly encounters.
The game has already started drawing comparisons to titles like Content Warning, DEVOUR, and Ready or Not due to its mix of tactical realism and co-op horror mechanics. Many early players have praised the atmosphere and immersive sound design, though others note that the game still feels rough around the edges in its current state.
According to the developer, future updates are expected to add:
• New maps
• Additional enemy types
• Improved AI systems
• More survival mechanics
• Expanded equipment and tools
• General polish and optimization

While NO BACKUP is still very early in development, its realistic presentation and intense co-op moments could help it carve out a strong audience among fans of immersive multiplayer horror games. Games built around streamer reactions and unpredictable player interactions have become increasingly popular over the last few years, and NO BACKUP appears designed with exactly that kind of experience in mind.
For now, the biggest question will be whether the developer can continue expanding the game’s content and refining its systems throughout Early Access. If the updates land well, this could become another breakout co-op horror title for players looking for tense late-night sessions with friends.
