Take-Two Comments Spark Fresh Questions Around L.A. Noire’s Future

Speculation around a potential return for L.A. Noire has picked up following recent comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. While the remarks have sparked excitement among fans of the detective classic, the reality is far more measured than some headlines suggest.

During a recent discussion about Take-Two’s portfolio, Zelnick acknowledged that the company has considered doing more with L.A. Noire. The 2011 title, developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games, remains one of the most unique entries in Rockstar’s catalogue thanks to its focus on investigative gameplay and its pioneering facial capture technology.

However, Zelnick was also clear on one key point:
there is currently nothing to announce.

That distinction is important. While Take-Two is open to revisiting older intellectual properties, there is no confirmation that a sequel, remake, or reboot of L.A. Noire is actively in development.

Despite being over a decade old, L.A. Noire continues to hold a strong reputation among players. Its use of MotionScan technology allowed for highly detailed facial animations, which became central to its interrogation system.

A modern return could, in theory, build on that foundation using current hardware, potentially delivering:

  • More advanced facial animation and performance capture
  • Deeper investigative systems
  • A richer, more dynamic version of post-war Los Angeles

But for now, these ideas remain purely speculative.

Zelnick’s comments align with a wider industry trend: major publishers are increasingly revisiting legacy franchises with strong brand recognition. Take-Two, which owns labels like Rockstar Games and 2K, has a deep catalogue of titles that could be reintroduced to modern audiences.

That said, Rockstar’s current focus is widely believed to be on major ongoing projects, making any immediate return to L.A. Noire unlikely.

There is no confirmed revival of L.A. Noire at this time.
What exists instead is a clear signal that the franchise hasn’t been forgotten.

For fans hoping to step back into the shoes of Cole Phelps, that may not be the announcement they were hoping for, but it suggests the case isn’t closed just yet.
