Temtem: Pioneers Revealed as Survival-Focused Spin-Off With Real-Time Combat

The Temtem franchise is expanding in a bold new direction with the announcement of Temtem: Pioneers, an upcoming open-world survival game that reimagines the creature-collecting formula in a much more hands-on, action-driven experience.

Developed by Crema, the project shifts away from the structured, turn-based gameplay of the original Temtem and instead embraces real-time combat, crafting systems, and cooperative survival mechanics.

Rather than continuing the traditional monster-battling formula, Temtem: Pioneers introduces players to a completely different gameplay loop. Set in a new region known as the “Downbelow,” the game places players in a hostile, unexplored environment where survival is the primary objective.

Players will need to gather resources, craft equipment, and build shelters while gradually pushing deeper into dangerous territory. The focus is not just on collecting creatures, but on using them as essential tools for survival and exploration.

One of the most significant changes comes in the form of combat. Temtem: Pioneers abandons the turn-based system of its predecessor in favor of a fully real-time approach.

Players can control multiple Temtem during encounters, switching between them on the fly and combining abilities in fast-paced battles. This shift aims to create a more dynamic and skill-based combat experience, aligning the game more closely with modern action-survival titles.

While combat has evolved, creatures remain at the heart of the experience. Players will be able to capture and train a wide range of Temtem, each offering unique abilities that go beyond fighting.

These creatures can assist with exploration, resource gathering, and traversal, making them a core part of both progression and moment-to-moment gameplay. The design suggests a deeper level of integration between player and creature compared to the original game.

Temtem: Pioneers places a strong emphasis on survival mechanics. Building and maintaining a base will be crucial, serving as a safe haven where players can craft items, prepare for expeditions, and manage resources.

As players explore further into the Downbelow, they will encounter increasingly challenging environments, encouraging strategic planning and cooperation.

The game will support both solo play and cooperative multiplayer. Players can team up to build settlements, explore dangerous regions, and tackle challenges together, reinforcing the social aspect of survival gameplay.

The reveal of Temtem: Pioneers has already sparked comparisons to other creature-based survival games, but its tone and structure suggest a more grounded and exploration-focused approach.

By combining creature collection with survival systems and real-time combat, the game represents a significant evolution for the franchise and a potential new direction for the genre as a whole.

At the time of writing, Temtem: Pioneers does not yet have a confirmed release date. The game is currently in development and is expected to launch on PC via Steam.
