Indie studio White Paper Games has officially revealed its next project, I AM RIPPER, a narrative driven thriller set in Britain during 1988. The game places players in the role of a forensic investigator assigned to solve a series of brutal murders in a struggling dock town in the north west of England. Against a backdrop of economic hardship and social unrest, the story aims to explore moral complexity, consequence, and the psychological toll of violent crime.
At its core, the experience focuses on branching storytelling, with player decisions shaping how the investigation unfolds and ultimately concludes. Choices are designed to carry weight, influencing character relationships, key revelations, and which ending players receive. The developer has described the narrative as intense and emotionally challenging, with ethical dilemmas forming a central part of the journey.
Gameplay will blend investigative mechanics with hands on interaction, encouraging players to closely examine environments, handle evidence, and piece together clues. The studio is building on the cinematic and immersive foundations established in its previous titles, aiming to deliver a grounded and atmospheric detective story with strong performances and detailed world building.
The game is currently in development for PC, with a release date yet to be announced. The Steam listing confirms it will be a single player experience and notes that it contains mature themes, with content warnings appearing before particularly distressing scenes. As anticipation grows, the title is positioning itself as a darker, choice driven mystery for players who enjoy story focused thrillers.
