Highguard, the free to play hero shooter developed by Wildlight Entertainment, is officially shutting down just weeks after its launch earlier this year. The studio has confirmed that the game’s servers will permanently go offline on March 12, bringing a swift end to its short lived run in the competitive live service market.

In a statement to players, Wildlight explained that despite early interest and millions of initial sign ups, the game was unable to maintain a sustainable player base. While Highguard saw a surge of curiosity at release, engagement reportedly declined rapidly in the weeks that followed, making long term support financially unviable.
Before the shutdown, the studio plans to release one final update. This last patch will introduce additional content, including a new playable character and other gameplay additions, giving remaining players a final opportunity to experience new material before the servers close for good.
Highguard’s closure comes amid increasing pressure within the live service space, where even well funded projects with experienced development teams are struggling to retain players. The announcement also follows reports of layoffs at Wildlight earlier in the year, underscoring the challenges the studio has faced since launch.
Once servers go offline in March, Highguard will no longer be playable, marking one of the quickest shutdowns for a major multiplayer release in recent memory.
