Just days before launch, Forza Horizon 6 has found itself at the center of a major controversy after leaked copies of the game reportedly began circulating online.
The situation escalated quickly after gameplay footage from an unfinished version of the racing title started appearing across social media and YouTube. Some creators uploaded extended clips showcasing menus, vehicles, map exploration, and early gameplay systems before the game’s official release date.
In response, developer Playground Games has reportedly begun issuing strict penalties to anyone caught accessing or distributing the leaked build. According to multiple reports, the studio warned that players could face “franchise wide” bans, potentially locking them out of future Forza titles entirely.
The harsh stance immediately sparked debate across the gaming community.
One content creator allegedly received a suspension lasting until the year 9999 after uploading leaked gameplay footage online, leading many players to interpret the punishment as a permanent ban. Reports also claim that hardware bans may be used in severe cases, preventing affected users from accessing the franchise on the same PC in the future.
While some fans support the crackdown and believe leaks damage developers and marketing plans, others argue the punishments may be excessive, especially if the leaked files originated from an internal distribution mistake rather than deliberate hacking.
Playground Games also addressed speculation surrounding the source of the leak. Rumors initially suggested that the game accidentally became accessible through a preload issue, but the studio reportedly denied those claims. Despite that, discussions online continue over how the build escaped ahead of release.
The leak has attracted massive attention because Forza Horizon 6 is shaping up to be one of Xbox’s biggest releases in years. The game is reportedly set in Japan and is expected to feature the largest open world map in the franchise so far, alongside hundreds of vehicles at launch.
As anticipation continues to build, the incident has become another reminder of how difficult major publishers now find it to protect high profile games in the days leading up to release. For many players, the bigger conversation is no longer just about the leak itself, but how far studios should go when enforcing punishments against those who access pre release content.
