A new tactical military shooter is starting to gain serious attention online, and many players are already calling it one of the most promising large scale FPS games in years. Developed by BULKHEAD and published by Team17, WARDOGS aims to combine the explosive sandbox chaos of Battlefield with the teamwork and tactical depth of games like Squad and Hell Let Loose.

Set to launch in Steam Early Access in 2026, WARDOGS throws 100 players into massive multiplayer battles across huge destructible maps inspired by industrial regions of Eastern Europe. However, unlike traditional shooters that pit two teams against each other, WARDOGS introduces a three faction warfare system where every match becomes far more unpredictable.
At the center of each battle is a randomized control zone placed somewhere within a gigantic 256km² battlefield. Teams must fight to dominate the zone and earn points, but because the objective constantly shifts and player tactics vary, no two matches are expected to play out the same way.

One of the game’s biggest features is its persistent cash economy. Players begin with money that can be spent on weapons, equipment, vehicles, and tactical gear. Unlike most shooters, the cash earned from teamwork actions such as reviving teammates, transporting allies, defending objectives, or supporting logistics carries over between matches. This creates a long term progression system where smart spending and strategy matter just as much as gun skill.
The game also heavily focuses on player freedom. Instead of forcing players into rigid classes, WARDOGS allows squads to approach combat however they want. Some players may focus on frontline infantry combat, while others transport supplies by helicopter, build fortified positions, operate artillery, or snipe from long range using ghillie suits.

Vehicles and destruction appear to play a huge role in the experience as well. Tanks can level buildings, players can construct forward operating bases, and entire areas of the battlefield can evolve throughout a match depending on how teams decide to attack or defend key positions.
BULKHEAD has also made it clear that WARDOGS is not trying to follow the current trends dominating multiplayer shooters. The developers specifically describe the game as neither a battle royale nor an extraction shooter, instead positioning it as a fully player driven warfare sandbox built around teamwork, communication, and tactical decision making.

The project has already started drawing comparisons to older Battlefield games online, especially among players searching for more large scale military shooters with destruction, vehicles, and coordinated teamwork.
