WARDOGS is officially heading to consoles, but PlayStation and Xbox players are going to have to wait considerably longer than those playing on PC.
Developer BULKHEAD has confirmed that WARDOGS will come to consoles in 2028, giving console players their first clear release window for the large scale tactical shooter.
The game launches first on PC through Steam Early Access, with BULKHEAD expecting the Early Access period to last for around one to two years. During that time, the studio plans to expand the game with more content, improve existing systems, refine balancing and make changes based on player feedback.
That timeline means the console release could arrive around the same time as, or shortly after, the game reaches a more complete version on PC.
BULKHEAD has previously confirmed that both PlayStation and Xbox are part of its plans, although exact platforms have not yet been detailed. That means PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are the most likely destinations, but specific console versions have not yet been formally announced.
WARDOGS is built around massive 100 player battles, with players divided across three competing teams. Matches combine infantry combat, vehicles, large maps, destructible environments and objective based warfare.
The developer also has plans to significantly expand the game throughout Early Access. More maps, weapons, vehicles and progression systems are expected to arrive over time, with additional vehicle types such as fighter jets also planned.
By the time WARDOGS reaches consoles in 2028, the game could therefore be considerably larger and more polished than the Early Access version available on PC at launch.
There are still several unanswered questions surrounding the console versions. BULKHEAD has not revealed an exact 2028 release date, whether PlayStation and Xbox versions will launch at the same time, or whether crossplay will be supported between PC and console players.
For now, though, console players finally have a rough idea of when they will be able to jump into WARDOGS. PC players get access first, while PlayStation and Xbox players will have to wait until 2028.
