Codename CURE II Launches as a Free-to-Play Co-op Zombie Shooter on Steam

The long-awaited sequel to the cult classic Source mod has finally arrived, bringing class-based teamwork, procedural missions and brutal zombie action to PC.

Codename CURE II has officially launched on Steam as a free-to-play cooperative zombie shooter, reviving the fan-favourite series with modern visuals, expanded gameplay systems and a greater emphasis on replayability.

Developed by Raptor Byte and published by indie.io, the sequel builds upon the foundations of the original Codename CURE, a popular multiplayer mod that earned a dedicated community through its tactical, team-focused approach to surviving the undead.

Set in a world devastated by a zombie outbreak, players join the CURE organisation, an elite force tasked with containing the infection and carrying out dangerous missions against increasingly deadly hordes of infected.

Unlike many traditional co-op shooters, Codename CURE II features five distinct playable classes: Pointman, Assault, Support, Technician and Sniper. Each class brings unique weapons, equipment and abilities, encouraging teams to work together and coordinate their roles to complete objectives.

One of the game’s standout features is its procedurally generated mission system. Rather than repeating identical maps, levels are assembled from modular environments with changing layouts and objectives, giving each playthrough a fresh feel. Players can tackle missions with up to five friends online or play solo alongside AI-controlled teammates.

Combat is also more than simply surviving endless waves of zombies. Players search environments for resources, unlock new weapons and equipment, and return to CURE HQ between missions to customise their loadouts, cosmetics and progression.

The game also introduces an enhanced gore system, allowing zombies to be dismembered with realistic damage effects during combat. Alongside standard infected, players will encounter specialised enemies including zombie dogs and infected military personnel, requiring different strategies to overcome.

Since launching on Steam, Codename CURE II has received a strong reception from players, earning a “Very Positive” user rating. Many early reviews have praised its satisfying gunplay, replayable mission structure and faithful evolution of the original game’s cooperative gameplay.

For fans of titles such as Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor and World War Z, Codename CURE II offers another fast-paced cooperative experience, combining objective-based missions, class progression and endless zombie-slaying action without an upfront purchase.

With its free-to-play model and focus on teamwork, Codename CURE II could become one of the standout co-op zombie shooters for PC players looking for a new challenge.
