Developed by Krabworks Game Studios Inc., Hermit is an upcoming open world fantasy RPG that aims to deliver a slower, more immersive experience inspired by classic role-playing games. Rather than focusing on fast-paced action, the game encourages players to prepare carefully, explore freely, and overcome challenges through strategy, crafting, and experimentation.
Set in a handcrafted fantasy world, players take on the role of one of the last surviving members of the Hermits, an order of outcast mages whose members have mysteriously disappeared. Your journey will take you across forests, mountains, swamps, villages, caves, and ancient ruins as you uncover the truth behind the order’s fate while taking on quests, battling dangerous enemies, and discovering hidden secrets.
Combat is designed to reward thoughtful decision-making rather than button mashing. Players can wield a variety of melee weapons, bows, shields, and magic while making use of different damage types, status effects, potions, and environmental conditions to gain an advantage. Alongside combat, you’ll gather resources, craft equipment, brew potions, hunt wildlife, trade with merchants, and upgrade your home as you progress through the world.
One of the game’s more unique features is its customizable donkey companion, which accompanies you throughout your adventure and carries supplies during long journeys. Combined with dynamic weather, changing seasons, day and night cycles, and multiple ways to complete quests, the game aims to create a world that feels both immersive and rewarding to explore.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Hermit is that it is largely being developed by a solo creator using Unreal Engine 5. A free demo is already available on Steam, giving players an early look at its ambitious systems while development on the full release continues. Although a launch date has yet to be announced, Hermit is already shaping up to be a promising indie RPG for fans of classic fantasy adventures and deep role-playing mechanics.
