Fatekeeper Looks Like a Brutal First Person Fantasy RPG With Elder Scrolls and Dark Messiah Vibes

THQ Nordic’s upcoming dark fantasy RPG blends first person combat, exploration, and character progression in a way that may appeal to fans of The Elder Scrolls, but with a much heavier focus on brutal melee action.

THQ Nordic and developer Paraglacial are preparing to launch Fatekeeper, an upcoming first person dark fantasy action RPG that is already drawing comparisons to classic fantasy titles like The Elder Scrolls thanks to its first person perspective, RPG systems, exploration, and medieval setting.

At first glance, Fatekeeper shares some similarities with games like Skyrim and Oblivion. Players explore a fantasy world filled with ruins, forests, caves, and ancient battlegrounds while building their character through weapons, armor, magic, and progression choices. Like The Elder Scrolls, it appears to give players freedom to shape their combat style, whether focusing on melee, agility, or spell based builds.

Where Fatekeeper seems to differ is in its overall structure and combat design.

Unlike The Elder Scrolls, which leans heavily into large open worlds, quests, NPC interactions, and broad sandbox exploration, Fatekeeper appears to be a tighter, handcrafted action RPG with a stronger focus on brutal close quarters combat and environmental interaction.

Its combat has stronger Dark Messiah of Might & Magic energy, with weighty swordplay, physics driven encounters, tactical positioning, and a darker, more grounded tone. That could make it feel less like a traditional Bethesda style RPG and more like a combat heavy first person fantasy experience built around survival, atmosphere, and direct action.

Visually, the grim medieval setting, monster design, and darker fantasy tone also separate it from the wider heroic fantasy feel of Skyrim.

For players who love The Elder Scrolls’ first person fantasy RPG formula but want something smaller, darker, and far more combat focused, Fatekeeper could end up being one of the more interesting fantasy RPGs to watch when it enters Early Access on PC this June.
