A new report suggests Ubisoft may be taking the Ghost Recon franchise in a very different direction, with the next entry reportedly drawing inspiration from hardcore tactical shooters like Ready or Not and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
According to recent insider claims, the unannounced Ghost Recon project is expected to focus heavily on realism, tactical squad gameplay, and more punishing combat mechanics. The game is also rumored to move away from the more arcade style structure seen in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint and instead lean into a grounded military simulation experience.
The leaks claim the title will feature:
• More realistic gunplay and stealth systems
• Reduced HUD and UI elements
• Squad command mechanics inspired by Ready or Not
• A stronger emphasis on tactical planning
• A possible first person perspective
• An Asian setting, with Vietnam reportedly being considered
If accurate, the changes could mark one of the biggest shifts in the history of the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands franchise. Previous entries focused heavily on open world exploration and co-op action, while the rumored new direction appears to be targeting a slower, more methodical tactical experience.
The comparisons to Ready or Not have already generated strong reactions online. That game became known for its unforgiving gameplay, close quarters combat, advanced AI behaviors, and realistic SWAT style mechanics. Many fans believe Ubisoft could be attempting to modernize Ghost Recon by pushing it closer toward the tactical simulation genre.
Reports also suggest the project survived Ubisoft’s recent internal restructuring and cancellations, which some fans see as a sign the publisher has confidence in the game’s direction.
At the moment, Ubisoft has not officially revealed the next Ghost Recon game, and none of the leaked details have been confirmed. However, with the franchise absent for several years, speculation around the series continues to grow as fans wait to see what direction Ubisoft takes next.
