Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has provided new insight into the development scale of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, revealing that Rockstar Games has been granted essentially “unlimited” resources to achieve a state of “perfection.”
Speaking in a recent interview, Zelnick emphasized that the studio has been provided with unprecedented levels of financial, creative, and human support. This backing is intended to ensure the development team can focus exclusively on creating an entertainment experience that surpasses anything currently available to players.
Zelnick addressed the evolving landscape of AAA game development, noting that modern projects have become significantly more expensive—particularly those attempting to set new standards in realism, scale, and technical fidelity. He described GTA 6 as a “high stakes” endeavor but reaffirmed the publisher’s total commitment to Rockstar’s vision.
While the term “unlimited resources” likely highlights the priority of the project rather than a literal lack of a budget, industry analysts have long speculated on the game’s massive financial footprint. Current reports and estimates suggest GTA 6 could potentially be the most expensive video game ever produced, with rumored development costs ranging between $1 billion and $1.5 billion.
The pressure to succeed is immense. Grand Theft Auto VI marks Rockstar’s first mainline entry in the series in over a decade. It follows Grand Theft Auto V, which remains one of the most successful and highest-selling entertainment products in history.
Zelnick admitted that the expectations surrounding the launch are “terrifying.” However, he maintained that the goal remains to deliver a product that offers something players have “never experienced before.”
Currently, Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19, 2026. The title is confirmed for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. As of now, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not officially announced a PC version of the game.
