Forever Skies, the latest survival crafting game from Far From Home, is carving out its own space in a crowded genre by taking players off the ground and into a toxic, cloud-covered sky.
Originally launching in full on PC and PlayStation 5 in April 2025, the game has continued to build momentum thanks to its unique concept, post-apocalyptic setting, and ongoing updates, with an Xbox release expected to follow.
Set in a future where Earth has been devastated by ecological collapse, Forever Skies drops players into a planet swallowed by thick, poisonous clouds. Humanity has long since abandoned the surface, leaving behind only the upper levels of once-massive skyscrapers poking through the haze.
Players take on the role of a lone scientist returning to Earth in search of answers and, ultimately, a cure that could save what remains of humanity.
What sets Forever Skies apart is its core mechanic: a fully customizable airship that acts as both transport and home base.
Rather than building a static shelter, players gradually construct and upgrade their airship, adding new modules, crafting stations, and systems as they progress. The ship becomes central to everything, from exploration to survival, requiring constant maintenance as it weathers storms and environmental hazards.

Exploration in Forever Skies is defined by verticality. Players navigate between towering ruins rising above the clouds, scavenging resources, uncovering remnants of lost technology, and piecing together the story of the planet’s collapse.
Different altitudes introduce new challenges, including radiation, dangerous anomalies, and remnants of mutated life, forcing players to adapt their strategy as they push further into the unknown.
Like most games in the genre, Forever Skies leans heavily into survival mechanics. Players must manage hunger, thirst, health, and exposure to various hazards while crafting tools and equipment to stay alive.
The game also supports co-op for up to four players, allowing groups to explore, build, and survive together, a feature that has become a key part of its appeal since being added during development.

While Forever Skies has been praised for its atmosphere, art direction, and innovative approach to base-building, reception has been somewhat mixed.
Players have highlighted the airship system and world design as standout features, but some criticism has been aimed at repetitive gameplay loops, limited narrative depth, and occasional technical issues.
Despite its shortcomings, Forever Skies offers something genuinely different in the survival genre. By shifting the focus from land or sea to the skies, it creates a sense of scale and isolation that few games manage to capture.
As updates continue and the game expands to new platforms, it could yet evolve into one of the more distinctive survival experiences of this generation.
