A new tactical military shooter called Bellum is currently in development, and it is aiming to deliver a much more strategic and high-pressure experience than most modern first person shooters. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the project focuses on coordinated platoon warfare, structured squads, and realistic combat systems that reward teamwork over individual play.
Set in a fictional conflict in Africa during the 2030s, Bellum places players in the middle of a proxy war involving several competing factions. Battles take place across large environments inspired by real world terrain such as savannas, dense vegetation, and rural settlements. The setting allows the developers to create a modern battlefield without tying the game to a specific real world conflict.
One of the defining mechanics of Bellum is its limited life system. Instead of unlimited respawns, players are given only a small number of lives during each match. Once those lives are exhausted, they are removed from the battle. The system is designed to raise the stakes of every encounter and encourage more thoughtful decision making during firefights.

Gameplay is structured around platoon sized teams made up of multiple squads. Each squad has leadership roles responsible for coordinating movement and tactics, while individual players can choose specialized roles such as medic, machine gunner, anti armor specialist, or support operator. The structure encourages communication and cooperation between players, with success often depending on how well squads work together.
Bellum also places a strong emphasis on realism in its combat systems. Weapons are designed with detailed ballistic modeling, meaning factors such as bullet travel, penetration, and environmental conditions can influence the outcome of engagements. Positioning, cover, and coordinated attacks are expected to play a significant role in determining victory.

The game will also feature crew served weapons such as mortars and heavy machine guns, which require multiple players to operate effectively. These systems are intended to reinforce the importance of teamwork while creating moments where organized squads can deliver powerful supporting fire.
According to the developers, Bellum will feature several asymmetrical factions, including conventional military units, private military contractors, and insurgent forces. Each faction will bring its own equipment and tactical advantages, creating different playstyles depending on which side players join.

While there is currently no confirmed release window, Bellum is already drawing attention among fans of tactical shooters. With its focus on structured squad play, limited respawns, and realistic gun mechanics, the project is positioning itself alongside titles such as Squad, Arma, and Hell Let Loose as part of a growing trend toward more immersive and teamwork driven military games.
