Warzone Players Will Soon Be Able to Replace Older Skins With MW4 Operators

Alex KirtonBy Alex KirtonSeptember 25, 20263 Mins Read

Call of Duty: Warzone is introducing a new Operator Skin Toggle that will allow players to filter out Operators and skins carried forward from older Call of Duty games.

The feature will arrive with Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4 and has been created specifically for Warzone, giving players more control over how the game looks on their own screen.

When the setting is enabled, any other player using an Operator or Operator Skin that does not originate from Modern Warfare 4 will instead appear as a Modern Warfare 4 Operator.

This applies to enemies, squad members and party members, both in the pre-game lobby and during matches. Activision specifically used Black Ops 6 skins as an example of content that would be replaced when the toggle is active.

Importantly, the system works entirely on the player’s side.

Someone wearing an older or crossover skin will still see their own selected Operator normally, while other players who have not enabled the filter will also continue seeing the original skin.

Your own equipped Operator is unaffected too. Even if you are using an Operator from an older Call of Duty title, enabling the toggle will not replace the character you personally selected.

The Operator Skin Toggle will be switched off by default, meaning Warzone will continue displaying all available Operators unless players manually choose to enable the new filter.

The feature arrives as Activision continues supporting Carry Forward in Warzone. Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 will remain available alongside previously earned and purchased skins, Blueprints and Camos.

Older weapons will also remain accessible through a new Legacy section in the Loadout menu. However, legacy weapons will have some restrictions, including the removal of full Gunsmith functionality and previous custom loadouts. Five-attachment versions of legacy base weapons will instead be available, while existing Blueprints will retain their attachment setups.

The new toggle appears to be Activision’s attempt to accommodate two very different groups of Warzone players: those who enjoy the huge collection of crossover and legacy cosmetics, and those who would prefer the game to maintain a visual style closer to the latest Modern Warfare release.

There is one important limitation, however. The system is not simply a button that removes every unusual or unrealistic skin.

It specifically filters Operators that come from games other than Modern Warfare 4. That means any unusual skins eventually released specifically for Modern Warfare 4 may still appear even with the filter enabled, unless Activision expands the system in the future.

For now, the feature gives Warzone players something they have been asking for in various forms for years: considerably more control over what the battlefield actually looks like.
