Ghost Recon Wildlands has received a substantial free update, giving players another reason to return to Bolivia. Released on 6 August 2026, Last Rites introduces new story content, expanded gameplay settings and performance improvements as part of the Ghost Recon series’ 25th anniversary celebrations.
The new mission sees the Ghosts confront La Llorona, the leader of a violent cult known as Los Penitentes. Driven by revenge, she draws the squad into a darker story involving betrayal and a devoted following. Players can uncover more about her background through documents and audio recordings found during the mission.
Last Rites can be launched directly from the main menu without completing the original campaign. Ubisoft also says the new story avoids spoiling the main game, allowing newcomers to choose where they begin.
The update brings back the Predator mission, restoring the encounter with the alien hunter. Ubisoft says the challenging showdown has been preserved as it originally appeared, giving returning players another opportunity to take on one of Wildlands’ most memorable opponents.
Performance is another major part of the update. PS5 and PS5 Pro players receive 4K and 60fps support, while Xbox Series X|S also benefits from a performance upgrade.
Beyond the additional content, Last Rites gives players more control over how Wildlands plays. New settings allow them to choose between carrying one or two primary weapons, adjust the number of revives and enable tactical reloading, which discards ammunition remaining in a magazine.
Players can also lock the time of day and weather, making it possible to conduct an entire session at night or in persistent rain. Enemy patrols, alarms and other systems can be adjusted, while AI squad size can now be set to one, two or three teammates.
Further additions include optional friendly fire in co-op, expanded interface controls and more detailed difficulty settings. Weapons, equipment and previously unavailable challenge rewards have also been unlocked for free, alongside additional character customisation options.
Ubisoft says player feedback helped shape the update, particularly requests from those using Wildlands for tactical roleplay and self-imposed challenges.
For existing owners, Last Rites is a free update to Ghost Recon Wildlands, offering fresh objectives and more ways to customise a return to its open world.
