Gallipoli Is a Hardcore 50-Player WW1 Shooter From the Creators of Isonzo

Alex KirtonBy Alex KirtonSeptember 25, 20263 Mins Read

A new World War I shooter is taking players away from the familiar trenches of Europe and throwing them directly onto the beaches and deserts of the Ottoman Fronts.

Gallipoli is the latest historical FPS from BlackMill Games, the studio behind Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo. Released on August 20, 2026, the game is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This time, the series focuses on conflicts involving the Ottoman Empire, with players fighting through locations inspired by the Gallipoli campaign, Mesopotamia and the Sinai and Palestine campaigns.

The main attraction is its large-scale 50-player multiplayer battles. Two teams fight over objectives across historically inspired maps, with the game placing a much heavier emphasis on teamwork, positioning and realistic weaponry than traditional arcade shooters.

Players can choose between 10 historical classes, each with different weapons, equipment and roles on the battlefield. Rifles, machine guns, grenades and other period-appropriate equipment make up the majority of the arsenal, continuing the more grounded style established by BlackMill’s previous WW1 games.

One of Gallipoli’s biggest features is its beach warfare.

Maps including Anzac Cove and V Beach recreate the famous Gallipoli landings, with attackers attempting to establish positions along heavily defended coastlines. Other maps move the fighting into very different environments, including the deserts and settlements of the Middle Eastern Front.

At launch, Gallipoli includes five maps covering several different battles and regions. BlackMill says the environments are closely inspired by their real-world locations, although some changes have been made to create more balanced and enjoyable multiplayer maps.

Gallipoli also introduces its own signature Expedition game mode. Like previous games in the WW1 Game Series, battles revolve around teams pushing through and defending different objectives rather than simply competing for kills.

The result is a slower and considerably more unforgiving style of FPS. Players need to coordinate attacks, make use of cover and carefully move between positions, as running directly across open ground can quickly end with a rifle round sending you back to the reinforcement screen.

BlackMill has also worked with historians and museums during development, with the studio aiming to accurately represent the uniforms, weapons, factions and environments of the period while still making the game work as a multiplayer shooter.

Gallipoli is the fourth major entry in BlackMill’s WW1 Game Series. Verdun previously focused on the Western Front, Tannenberg moved to the Eastern Front and Isonzo explored fighting across the Italian Alps. Gallipoli now takes the series beyond Europe and into the Ottoman Fronts for the first time.

The game has already attracted thousands of player reviews on Steam, where its recent reception is currently listed as Mostly Positive.

For players looking for something closer to a historical military shooter than Call of Duty or Battlefield, Gallipoli offers a very different take on large-scale FPS combat, complete with 50-player battles, brutal beach landings and some of the lesser-covered battlefields of the First World War.
