Rocksteady Studios is reportedly returning to the franchise that made it famous, with a new single-player Batman game believed to be in development.
The project was first reported in 2025, when Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier revealed that Rocksteady was looking to return to Batman following the troubled launch and subsequent end of support for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
While Warner Bros. Games and Rocksteady have yet to officially announce the project, recent activity at the studio suggests development on its next major AAA game is continuing.
Rocksteady is currently recruiting developers for roles focused on combat, enemy AI and other core gameplay systems. One recent listing for a Senior Gameplay Programmer specifically mentions creating “emergent gameplay” through combat and navigation-related NPC behaviour, with an emphasis on giving players freedom and choice.
Another position focuses specifically on developing core combat and enemy AI for what Rocksteady describes as “next generation games.”
Those details could certainly fit a new Batman experience, particularly given the systems that defined the Batman: Arkham series. However, the job listings themselves do not identify the project as Batman.
There have also been claims circulating that the new game will feature a significantly larger open world. For now, those claims should be treated as rumours. Neither Rocksteady nor Warner Bros. has confirmed the game’s map, setting or whether it will even follow the same open-world structure as Batman: Arkham Knight.
Likewise, there is currently no confirmation that the project will be called another Arkham game. Details surrounding its story, playable characters, platforms and release date remain unknown.
Rocksteady hasn’t released a traditional single-player Batman adventure since Batman: Arkham Knight arrived in 2015. The studio subsequently developed Batman: Arkham VR before moving onto Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
If the reports prove accurate, the new project would mark a major return to Rocksteady’s roots, bringing the studio back to a single-player Batman experience more than a decade after Arkham Knight.
For now, fans may have to wait some time before seeing it. The original reporting indicated the project was still years away, and Rocksteady has yet to formally reveal its next game.
