Prime Video dropped jaws (and memes) yesterday with the first official production still from its highly anticipated God of War TV series, featuring Ryan Hurst as the hulking Spartan Kratos and newcomer Callum Vinson as his son Atreus.
The image, shared by the official God of War on Prime account, shows a fur-clad, axe-wielding duo trudging through a snowy Nordic landscape—captioned “Father and Son. Behold your first look at Kratos and Atreus… Their journey to the highest peak begins.”
It exploded to over 83,000 likes, 7,900 reposts, and 6.7 million views within 24 hours, but the 4,600 quotes and 3,800 replies were a roasting bonfire.
X users didn’t hold back, dubbing it “low-budget cosplay,” “AI-generated fever dream,” and “SNL parody.” One viral post contrasted it with superior fan cosplay, racking up 3,600 likes: “Prime Video Vs Fans Cosplay.”
Kratos drew fire for his “skinny dadbod,” “fake beard,” and awkward hunch, while Atreus was likened to “Hasbulla” or a “confused toddler.”
Top replies included “dollar tree Kratos” and pleas to “delay the show and overhaul the costume design.”
