Whispers in the Fog Is an Upcoming Horror Game Where Thickening Fog Signals Supernatural Danger

Whispers in the Fog is an upcoming first person psychological horror game that sends players into a deserted town in search of their missing brother. Developed by Pasquale Scionti, the game combines investigation, environmental puzzles and supernatural encounters, with one unsettling detail: the fog grows thicker around paranormal entities.

The story follows Adrian Norren, who returns to the town of Whispers after a new clue offers hope of finding his brother. However, he awakens alone on a rain soaked road with no memory of the hours before his arrival. His search leads towards a settlement surrounded by woodland, where other people have also disappeared without explanation.

Players will follow the trail through an abandoned petrol station, overgrown paths and empty streets, occasionally hearing a familiar voice from somewhere beyond their sight. That personal connection gives Adrian a reason to keep moving, even as distant figures begin appearing between the trees.

Investigation forms a central part of the experience. Notes, photographs and belongings left behind help players piece together the stories of the town’s former residents. Exploring beyond the main route can reveal hidden rooms and further clues about the disappearances.

Progress also depends on examining the environment carefully. Players will need to collect keys, decipher codes and solve puzzles to access new routes. A flash light illuminates dark interiors, while a backpack and journal help organise items and discoveries without filling the screen with interface elements.

Supernatural threats complicate that search. According to the game’s description, fog becomes denser around entities, giving the changing conditions a significance beyond atmosphere. Encounters are intended to be restrained, with avoidance among the available options. The flashlight can be used against certain entities, while improvised weapons and limited firearms provide other means of dealing with danger.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, the project places considerable emphasis on its environments. Scionti describes a visual direction shaped around an abandoned town, dense forest, persistent rain and heavy fog. Lighting and environmental movement are intended to help guide players through the surroundings.

Sound is another important part of that approach. The developer has used Unreal Engine’s MetaSounds tools for environmental ambience, creaking sounds and interactive audio, supporting a setting where listening can be as important as watching the road ahead.

A gameplay trailer released in September offers a closer look at the exploration, puzzles and encounters. The official website now reports more than 40,000 Steam wishlists and also mentions an upcoming playable demo.

Whispers in the Fog is available to wishlist on Steam. A release date has yet to be announced.
