A resurfaced rumour claims L.A. Noire 2 could take players to San Francisco, with a detective story centred on the Zodiac Killer and more advanced facial capture technology.
The claim reportedly dates back to an anonymous 2023 post shared on GTAForums, which described a potential sequel as being in the early stages of development. It suggested Rockstar was considering a San Francisco setting, a Zodiac storyline and a release around 2030. The rumour attracted renewed coverage in September 2026.
Part of the renewed interest comes from reports that the same source accurately described elements of GTA VI before they were publicly revealed. However, those alleged predictions do not confirm the L.A. Noire claims, and the original post’s authenticity and edit history have not been independently verified for this article.
There is a confirmed connection that makes a return to the series intriguing. In March 2025, Rockstar announced the acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, renaming the studio Rockstar Australia. Founded by original L.A. Noire director Brendan McNamara, the team previously worked on the game’s 2017 rereleases and L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. The acquisition announcement did not mention a sequel.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also reportedly acknowledged in April 2026 that the company had considered doing more with the franchise, while stressing there was nothing specific to announce.
A Zodiac storyline could provide a compelling foundation for the series’ investigative gameplay. The historical case involved multiple Bay Area jurisdictions, cryptic correspondence and forensic analysis—potential material for crime scenes, interviews and evidence gathering. That remains a creative possibility rather than a confirmed description of the game.
As of 8 October 2026, no official announcement confirming L.A. Noire 2 was found. Its alleged setting, storyline, facial capture ambitions and 2030 release window should all be treated as unverified.
