Alien Deathstorm Looks Like Rebellion’s Most Ambitious Horror Game Yet

Rebellion, the studio best known for the Sniper Elite and Zombie Army franchises, has officially revealed Alien Deathstorm, a brand-new first-person action horror game coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2027.

Unveiled during the Xbox Partner Preview showcase, Alien Deathstorm introduces an original sci-fi universe that combines intense FPS combat with survival horror, placing players on a remote colony that has been devastated by a catastrophic event known as the Deathstorm. The game will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.

In Alien Deathstorm, players take on the role of a Combat Engineer, a highly trained first responder dispatched to investigate a mysterious communications blackout on an isolated off-world settlement. However, what begins as a rescue mission quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival.

By the time you arrive, the colony has already been torn apart by the Deathstorm, an enormous atmospheric catastrophe capable of destroying buildings and reshaping the environment in real time. With rescue forces still days or even weeks away, you’ll be left to navigate collapsing structures while fending off terrifying alien creatures lurking throughout the ruined facility.

Unlike traditional survival horror games that encourage players to avoid combat, Alien Deathstorm appears to lean heavily into action. Rebellion says players will use a combination of firearms, engineering equipment, explosives, and environmental tools to survive against relentless alien threats. While ammunition and resources won’t be unlimited, the Combat Engineer is far from defenseless, offering a more aggressive approach to the genre.

The game’s biggest selling point may be the Deathstorm itself. Rather than serving as a scripted set piece, the colossal storm acts as a dynamic gameplay mechanic, forcing players to adapt as environments become increasingly unstable. Buildings can collapse, visibility changes dramatically, and surviving the planet itself becomes just as important as surviving the alien infestation.

Visually, Alien Deathstorm embraces a gritty retro sci-fi aesthetic inspired by classic 1980s science fiction and cosmic horror. The industrial colony, analogue technology, and oppressive atmosphere create a world that feels both grounded and unsettling, helping distinguish it from more futuristic shooters.

Although Rebellion has only shown an announcement trailer so far, the early reveal has already drawn comparisons to games like Dead Space, Doom, Alien: Isolation, and The Callisto Protocol. If the studio can successfully balance atmospheric horror with satisfying gunplay and its dynamic weather system, Alien Deathstorm could become one of 2027’s most promising sci-fi releases.

Alien Deathstorm is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a day one release on Xbox Game Pass. Rebellion has yet to announce a specific release date, but more gameplay details are expected in the months ahead.
