The Witcher 3 Is Officially Getting A Brand New Expansion More Than 10 Years Later

CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a brand new expansion called Songs of the Past, marking the legendary RPG’s third major DLC nearly 12 years after the original game launched in 2015.

The surprise announcement has stunned the gaming community, with many players believing support for the game had permanently ended following the release of Blood and Wine back in 2016 and the next gen update released in 2022.

According to CD Projekt RED, Songs of the Past will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The expansion will once again place players in the role of Geralt of Rivia for a completely new adventure across the Continent.

The expansion is being co developed with Fool’s Theory, a Polish studio made up of several developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The studio is also currently involved with the upcoming The Witcher remake, making them a natural fit for the project.

While CD Projekt has not revealed specific story details yet, the title Songs of the Past has already sparked heavy speculation among fans. Many believe the DLC could revisit unresolved storylines, older characters, or even explore parts of Geralt’s history that were only briefly mentioned in previous games and books.

The announcement is especially surprising considering CD Projekt is already heavily focused on multiple major projects, including The Witcher 4, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and several other unannounced titles.

Despite its age, The Witcher 3 remains one of the most successful RPGs ever created. The game has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide and is widely regarded as one of the greatest open world games of all time.

The original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, were both critically acclaimed, with Blood and Wine still frequently considered one of the best DLC expansions ever released for a video game.

CD Projekt RED says more information about Songs of the Past will be revealed later this summer.
