A new survival horror game called Agni: Village of Calamity is starting to gain serious attention online thanks to its disturbing atmosphere, cinematic visuals, and heavy inspiration from classic horror franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
Developed by Indonesian studio Separuh Interactive and published by Wired Productions, the upcoming title blends psychological horror, brutal violence, and local folklore into what could become one of the most unique horror games currently in development.
Set inside the mysterious forbidden village of Desa Purba, the story follows Agni, an investigator from a covert Indonesian police unit who disobeys orders to search for her missing partner. What begins as a rescue mission slowly descends into a nightmare filled with ritual horror, trauma, and increasingly unstable reality.
The game’s biggest selling point is its atmosphere. Rather than focusing on fast paced action, Agni: Village of Calamity appears to lean heavily into classic survival horror mechanics, including limited resources, tense exploration, disturbing creature encounters, and cinematic storytelling. The developers have openly referenced influences like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alan Wake, and Control, while combining those ideas with Indonesian mythology and horror traditions.
Visually, the project has already impressed many horror fans online. Early footage showcases highly detailed environments, dramatic lighting, realistic facial animation, and a dark cinematic presentation that feels far more ambitious than most indie horror projects. Social media reactions have compared the game’s visuals and atmosphere to modern AAA horror titles despite being developed by a much smaller team.
Wired Productions described the game as a mix of “ritual horror, psychological collapse, cinematic storytelling, and Indonesian slasher violence,” with the publisher stating that the project feels “deeply unsettling and entirely its own.”
One aspect helping the game stand out is its cultural identity. While many horror games draw from western or Japanese horror traditions, Agni: Village of Calamity heavily incorporates Indonesian folklore, local legends, and regional horror aesthetics. That unique setting has already made it one of the more talked about indie horror projects currently appearing across Steam wishlists and horror gaming communities.
The game is currently scheduled to launch in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though an exact release date has not yet been confirmed.
