Splitgate Developer 1047 Games Working on Titanfall-Inspired Shooter ‘Empulse’

A new leak claims that 1047 Games, the studio behind the Splitgate franchise, is quietly developing a brand-new multiplayer shooter heavily inspired by Titanfall 2.

According to a report from Insider Gaming, the project is internally known as Empulse. The game is said to feature fast-paced movement mechanics, large pilotable mechs, and arena-based combat designed around speed and verticality. While the project has not been officially announced, early details have already caught the attention of fans desperate for a true successor to Respawn Entertainment’s beloved sci-fi shooter.

Leaked pre-alpha gameplay footage reportedly showcases a multiplayer style built around aggressive mobility. In modes like Team Deathmatch, players are reportedly able to wall-run across environments, utilize grappling hooks, and use boost pads to rapidly reposition during firefights.

The report also claims that players can commandeer massive combat mechs scattered across the map. These mechs are allegedly equipped with devastating loadouts, including:

  • Primary Gatling guns
  • Missile launchers tied to cooldowns
  • Deployable energy shields for defensive cover

Many online immediately compared the project to Titanfall 2, noting that the visual aesthetic of the mechs and the fluidity of the pilot movement mirror Respawn’s formula. However, the game reportedly trades the bright, arcade-like color palette of Splitgate for a grittier tone reminiscent of shooters like Ubisoft’s XDefiant.

Despite the mechanical depth shown in the leak, the project appears to still be in very early development. Insider Gaming describes Empulse as being in a pre-alpha state, managed by a small internal team while the main studio continues supporting Splitgate: Arena Reloaded.

Interestingly, the studio has already hinted at a project of this nature. Earlier this year, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx confirmed during a community update that a small section of the team had begun experimenting with a separate movement shooter. Proulx explicitly cited Titanfall and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 as core inspirations and invited players familiar with those franchises to sign up for early playtesting.

The newly leaked details surrounding Empulse appear to line up directly with those early experiments.

The timing of the leak is notable for fans of the genre. Players have spent years begging Respawn Entertainment and EA to revisit the Titanfall franchise. However, with Respawn heavily focused on the ongoing success of Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series, hopes for a proper Titanfall 3 remain slim. As a result, the community has actively looked elsewhere for games that can capture that same high-speed, mech-driven chaos.

Community reaction to the leak has been largely positive, with many noting that the industry has lacked a major movement-focused FPS for years. However, some players remain cautious. 1047 Games has had a turbulent year, which included a troubled launch for Splitgate 2, subsequent studio layoffs, and an abrupt pivot to re-release the title as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. For some skeptics, Empulse represents a massive gamble for a studio still trying to stabilize its flagship IP.

At the time of writing, neither 1047 Games nor its official social channels have publicly acknowledged the leak. No target platforms, release windows, or pricing models (free-to-play vs. premium) have been confirmed. However, sources suggest that an official announcement could come later this year.
