Resident Evil Requiem Surpasses 5 Million Sales Just Days After Launch

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Requiem has already surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide, marking an extremely strong start for the latest entry in the long running survival horror franchise.

The game launched on February 27, 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. According to Capcom, the title reached the 5 million milestone within roughly a week of release, highlighting significant global demand for the new installment.

Resident Evil Requiem was developed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, which the company says allows for highly detailed character rendering and environments. The engine enables realistic visual effects including detailed skin textures, natural lighting, and lifelike eye and hair movement, contributing to the game’s cinematic presentation.

One of the gameplay features highlighted by Capcom is the ability for players to switch between first person and third person perspectives during gameplay. This approach allows players to experience the game’s survival horror atmosphere in different ways depending on their preferred play style.

The title also includes multiple difficulty settings, making the experience accessible for both newcomers to the franchise and long time fans seeking a greater challenge.

Prior to its release, Resident Evil Requiem generated significant attention during the global gaming showcase circuit. At Gamescom 2025, the game received four awards, including the “Most Epic” award, helping build anticipation ahead of launch.

The strong early sales continue the long term success of the Resident Evil series, which first debuted in 1996. Capcom reports that the franchise has now surpassed 183 million units sold worldwide as of the end of 2025, making it one of the most successful horror franchises in video game history.

With Resident Evil Requiem already reaching millions of players in its first week, the latest entry appears set to further expand the series’ global audience while reinforcing Resident Evil’s position as one of Capcom’s flagship properties.
