A new indie survival horror title is setting its sights on an unusual historical backdrop. Undead Chronicles is an upcoming first person shooter that blends methodical combat, resource scarcity and psychological tension, all set in Istanbul in 1923.
Developed by Seyfhouse Games, the game places players in the role of RJ Edwards, a British banking official sent to the Imperial Ottoman Bank during a period of political and social upheaval. Upon arrival, he finds the city largely abandoned and overtaken by a devastating plague that has transformed much of the population into the undead.
Unlike faster arcade style zombie shooters, Undead Chronicles leans heavily into deliberate pacing. Firearms are described as heavy and unforgiving, with limited ammunition forcing players to think carefully before pulling the trigger. Headshots are crucial, and encounters are designed to feel dangerous rather than empowering.
The infected are portrayed as slow but relentless, creating pressure through atmosphere and positioning rather than sheer speed. This approach places the emphasis on survival and planning instead of constant action.
The 1923 Istanbul setting helps distinguish the game from more contemporary zombie titles. Fog covered streets, flooded cisterns and sealed bank vaults form part of the explorable environments. The developers are aiming for grounded environmental storytelling, with minimal on screen guidance and puzzles tied to exploration, such as locating keys or restoring power.
The tone appears serious and gritty, with an emphasis on decay and psychological strain. Early footage and promotional materials suggest a focus on immersion, with limited HUD elements to maintain tension.
Undead Chronicles is currently listed as an upcoming single player PC release on Steam. At the time of writing, there is no confirmed launch date. Players can wishlist the game while development continues.
