Ubisoft has shared its most confident update yet on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, confirming that the long awaited sequel is now firmly in active production at Massive Entertainment.
The update came during the New Game+ Showcase on January 8, 2026, where franchise executive producer Julian Gerighty spoke openly about the project’s current state. While stopping short of revealing gameplay or setting details, Gerighty made it clear that the scale of the sequel is already significant, describing the game as “shaping up to be a monster.” He added that the team’s ambition is to deliver an experience with an impact comparable to the original The Division when it launched in 2016.
Although The Division 3 was first announced in late 2023, development only fully ramped up after Gerighty completed his work as creative director on Star Wars Outlaws in mid 2024. Since then, Massive Entertainment has been expanding its development team, including recruiting senior leadership roles such as a Level Design Director, signalling that the project has moved into full scale production.
Despite the optimistic update, fans should expect a lengthy wait. Reports suggest that The Division 3 is still several years away from release, with no official launch window or confirmed platforms announced at this time.
While work continues on the sequel, Ubisoft is keeping the franchise active elsewhere. A major tenth anniversary update for The Division 2: Survivors is planned for later in 2026, introducing a new extraction focused experience set during a severe blizzard in Washington D.C. Meanwhile, the mobile spinoff The Division Resurgence remains scheduled to launch by March 31, 2026.
With Ubisoft recently navigating internal restructuring and staff transition programs, The Division 3 is widely viewed as a crucial project for the publisher’s future. While concrete details remain scarce, the message from Massive Entertainment is clear: the next chapter of The Division is being built on a much larger scale than before.
