Modders have managed to run PS5 games on PC

Alex KirtonBy Alex KirtonOctober 12, 20263 Mins Read

Wolverine and Astro Bot are appearing in experimental PC demonstrations as developers make progress with PS5 software. Getting the games to run smoothly is still a work in progress. 12 October 2026

Modders are getting selected PlayStation 5 games running on PC, with experimental projects moving beyond startup screens and into gameplay. The progress is opening up new possibilities for console exclusives, although performance and compatibility still vary widely between games.

Two of the projects behind the demonstrations are KytyPS5 and SharpEmu. Both remain under active development, with public reports documenting games that boot, reach menus or make it into playable sections.

One demonstration attracting attention shows Marvel’s Wolverine running through KytyPS5 on a PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080. The video was uploaded by Unreal Gaming PC and uses a customised build of the software.

According to DSOGaming’s report on the recording, Wolverine reaches around 20 frames per second in some scenes, but frequently runs at just 6–9 FPS. Those results show the game executing on PC, while also making clear how much optimisation remains before it becomes a comfortable way to play.

Astro Bot has also reached gameplay, though its results depend heavily on the hardware, software build and patches being used. Recent KytyPS5 test reports describe everything from startup crashes to levels running at low frame rates. Some tests use separate development versions containing fixes that are not available in the same form in the main release.

Simpler games are further along. At the time of writing, SharpEmu’s compatibility tracker lists 38 of its 92 tested titles as playable, including Hades, Quake II and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The tracker still categorises Astro Bot, Astro’s Playroom and Demon’s Souls as reaching gameplay rather than giving them its playable label.

The distinction matters. A game can respond to a controller and display a scene while still suffering from broken graphics, missing sound or crashes. A short clip also cannot establish whether later levels or an entire campaign will work.

Another project, AnyPS5, takes a different approach. It converts PS5 executables into native computer programs and supplies replacements for the system libraries they expect. Its verified compatibility list includes the 2D platformer Dreaming Sarah, reported running at 60 FPS on a GTX 1050 Ti and Intel i5-7500.

AnyPS5 has also reached 100% recognition of the GPU shader instructions counted by its progress tracker. That milestone concerns decoding instructions; it does not mean every graphics feature works correctly or that the entire PS5 library is now supported.

Ghost of Yōtei is another game being investigated. A KytyPS5 developer update dated 5 October documented working first-launch settings screens and controller input, while explicitly stating that gameplay had not been verified. Separate AnyPS5 development reports also describe progress through setup screens alongside unresolved loading and rendering problems.

The advances have prompted speculation about whether GTA 6 could eventually run on PC through similar tools before an official PC release. Rockstar currently lists the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a 19 November 2026 launch. There is no verified GTA 6 demonstration in the project records reviewed for this article, and no established timetable for compatibility.

For now, the clearest achievement is that selected PS5 games are running on PC at all, with developers steadily tackling the problems that prevent more demanding titles from working reliably. Whether the next breakthrough brings a smoother exclusive or another game past its loading screen will depend on the individual title.
