Following the release of Crimson Desert, developer Pearl Abyss is reportedly shifting focus to its next major project, an open world creature collecting game called DokeV.
The studio, best known for its large scale open worlds, appears to be taking a very different direction with its next title. While Crimson Desert leaned into gritty realism and grounded storytelling, DokeV is shaping up to be a colourful, modern adventure built around collecting creatures and exploring a vibrant world.
DokeV has often been compared to Pokémon style games, but early details suggest it will move away from traditional turn based systems. Instead, the game is expected to feature real time action combat, with players fighting alongside creatures known as Dokebi. These creatures are inspired by Korean folklore and are said to be tied to human dreams and emotions.
The game places a strong emphasis on exploration, with a fully open world that players can traverse using a variety of methods. Footage previously shown by the developers highlights skateboards, gliders, vehicles, and other unusual traversal options, suggesting movement and freedom will be a core part of the experience.
Development on DokeV has been ongoing for several years, though updates slowed significantly while Pearl Abyss prioritised finishing Crimson Desert. With that project now released, reports indicate the studio is once again allocating resources toward DokeV, with more updates expected throughout 2026.
While there is still no confirmed release date, current expectations suggest the game could launch within the next few years. If it delivers on its early promise, DokeV could offer a fresh take on the creature collecting genre by combining it with a large scale open world and action focused gameplay.
For now, it represents a clear shift in direction for Pearl Abyss, and one that could position the studio in a very different space compared to its previous titles.
