DokeV: Pearl Abyss’ Creature-Collecting Open World Still in Development as Fans Await Update

Several years after its eye-catching debut, DokeV remains one of the most visually distinctive upcoming titles from Pearl Abyss, though firm details about its release are still under wraps.

Originally revealed in 2019 and later showcased with a vibrant gameplay trailer during Gamescom 2021, DokeV quickly drew attention for its colorful open world, stylized characters, and energetic presentation. The game centers around collecting creatures known as Dokebi, inspired by Korean folklore, which gain power from people’s dreams and accompany players on their journey.

When DokeV was first introduced, it was described as an MMO. However, Pearl Abyss later clarified that the project evolved into a single-player open-world action adventure. The change marked a significant shift in tone and structure, positioning the game closer to a narrative-driven exploration experience rather than a massively multiplayer title.

Gameplay footage has shown players exploring a bright, modern fantasy world using traversal tools such as gliders and mounts, while interacting with creatures and engaging in light combat scenarios. While creature collection is central to the experience, Pearl Abyss has not yet provided a full breakdown of progression systems, battle depth, or long-term gameplay loops.

DokeV is being developed using Pearl Abyss’ proprietary BlackSpace Engine, the same technology powering the studio’s other large-scale projects. The game is planned for PC and current-generation consoles, though exact platform details have not been recently updated.

The project exists alongside other major Pearl Abyss titles, including Crimson Desert, which has taken priority in recent years. As a result, public updates on DokeV have been relatively limited.

At present, DokeV does not have an official release date. Early expectations suggested a launch within a few years of its reveal, but that window has passed. Pearl Abyss has maintained that the game is still in development, though no revised timeline has been announced.

Despite the quiet period, interest remains strong due to the game’s distinct visual identity and creature-collecting premise. Until Pearl Abyss provides a new development update, DokeV remains one of the more intriguing but mysterious projects on the studio’s slate.

For now, fans will have to wait for the next official showcase to learn when they can finally explore its vibrant world.
