Why Gamers are Choosing the Atari VCS over PS5 and Xbox Series X

The Atari VCS could bring ‘something different’ than that of other new consoles such as the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. It seems the upcoming console could be finding a new niche which previously has not been discovered.

The new Atari VCS is hoping to appeal to gamers in a different way to other new next-gen consoles on the market, although it won’t be met with the same demand as consoles such as the PS5 of Xbox Series X according to Michael Artz, Atari’s COO the “Atari VCS provides consumers who may be weary of the iterative nature of the console wars something different to consider.”

One of the main strengths of the Atari VCS is it’s ability to double up as a mini-PC, it also hosts the power to play all of Atari’s classic games too as it is a hybrid console.

Artz explained recently in an interview with T3 why the Atari VCS should be considered as a main part of your entertainment centre.

“First and foremost the Atari VCS was designed for the living room, merging the benefits of a console, a streaming box, and a multimedia PC,” Arzt said. “The PC functionality, the all-in-one nature of the device, and the broad accessibility of streaming services means it can carry the lion’s share of gaming and streaming activity in any living room. Plus, that doesn’t preclude people using the Atari VCS as a dedicated mini-PC.”

“Users can tap into a wide variety of traditional PC functionalities, from office work, to email, to online shopping to PC gaming and much more,” Artz said. “There has been a lot of interest in the VCS as a PC, in part because it provides so much incremental value compared to other mini-PCs in our price range.”

With pre-orders currently going strong, gamers will start receiving their consoles this spring across the US, currently there isn’t any further information on releasing the console internationally although there has been rumours we could be seeing this later in the year.
