Lines of code from the Steam client’s latest update has revealed that there could be a handheld console in the works.
‘SteamPal’ was mysteriously revealed in Steams recent client beta code recently which suggests Valve may be working on a new handheld console.
Valve’s distribution client already possesses a handheld version which gives players the ability to play current titles on the likes of a mobile device, if the game is optimised for mobile of course.

Players can also use mobile devices as a controller when playing games on a PC or other mobile devices, thanks to the Steam Link App. Of course, not every game in its library is compatible for play on a mobile phone, the whole library will remain available it is simply a question of if it will run smoothly on the device or not.
If rumours prove to be correct, the SteamPal could be a completely new console, the SteamDB founder Pavel Djundik took a look at the code found in the latest update.
