Creators of The Sims 4 have been accused of whitewashing some of the series most iconic characters.
There has been some controversy surrounding whitewashing in The Sims 4, this subject has been brought forward many times and has recently popped up in a thread on Reddit.
The image posted to Reddit showed characters such as Dina Caliente and Cassandra Goth alongside their first appearance in the game compared to the most recent.
These comparisons showed a significant different in skin tone when placed side by side.
In a recent Maxis Twitch stream, members of the team Ash and SimGuruGeorge took tp answering fans questions.
It wasn’t long before fans brought up the ‘whitewashing’ issue, Ash said in response to these accusations “Hundreds of townies have come to life since the first Sims game launched 21 years ago. A lot of love has been put into every single one of them, and we acknowledge that they need continued care and attention”.
Maxis has already shared back in December than a free update had added over 100 new skins in The Sims 4 that offered fans a slider to completely adjust skin tones.
While this was applied to Sims inside players homes, but it left players wondering about the NPCs that have been present in the game since day one.
The Sims Executive Producer Lyndsay Pearson took to Twitter recently to address concerns over skin tones.
The post read “I want to acknowledge your concerns about the variety of skin tones represented in The Sims 4 & I have some updates from the team to share.”
There has also recently been a host of Asian eye presets along with a series of further hairstyles added to the game and it looks as if the game will continue to offer a wider variety of options in the future too.
