A new Bloomberg report claims that Sony Interactive Entertainment has a remake of The Last of Us up their sleeve, and that the original game will be remade for PlayStation 5.
According to the report the project was initially in development with PlayStation’s Visual Arts Service Group until the studio was then swapped over to a support role on the game. The development of the title is now in hand with the series creator Naughty Dog.
Naughty Dog was said to have taken the lead on the project after the completion of The Last of Us Part 2 back in June of last year.
The Visual Arts Service was founded back in 2017 with the intention of helping the growth of some of the biggest franchises by Playstation.
It was rumoured that a remake was due to be made of Uncharted back in 2007, however it was seen to be too timely and expensive so the project was left and attention was turned to creating a remake of The Last of Us.
We saw The Last of Us originally released back in 2013 along with a remastered version in July of 2014 for PS4. The studio was said to be assigned to assisting in getting The Last of Us 2 ready for release, however the title was then delayed.
It then seems as if the studios role was significantly reduced in the project and it became apparent that Naughty Dog was in charge of the remake.
Although nothing has been officially announced, could it be that we see Naughty Dog play part in the remaster of The Last of Us Part 2 for PS5 also?
Since the release of The Last of Us Part 2, the title has seen four million copies worldwide in sales in only three days, this earned it the title of the fastest selling PS4 exclusive.
