The gaming world used to be predominantly thought of as a mostly male space, however over the years it has came a long way.
The gaming industry has came leaps and bounds over the years, giving players the option to play as a wide variety of characters.
The days are over where gamers were limited to playing as Mario, so now if you wish to play as Princess Peach or any female character for that fact the options are available, and it actually turns out that many male gamers actually prefer playing as female characters.
A recent survey from Quantic Foundry has shown that one out of three men actually prefer playing as female characters while gaming.
‘DestraPlays’ took to Twitter to share the survey, the post read “About one out of three men prefer playing female characters. Rethinking the importance of female protagonists in video games. Have been looking for data points on this for a while. Love Quantic Foundry!”
The survey asked 500,000 players if they prefer to play as a male character or as a female character.
The survey included responses from players worldwide and also those who played a wide selection of games from MMOs to RPGs.
A lot of players tend to favour playing as their own gender while gaming, according to this survey, one out of three male gamers would prefer to play as a female character.
This survey also took into consideration nonbinary players as there was a 38% preference for nonbinary characters, 33% for female and only 10% for male.
These statistics also interesting represent how games have evolved and changed over the years, for example we recently say Ariana Grande take to the stage inside Fortnite.
This lead to thousands of male players take on her iconic outfits while participating in the Epic Games live event.
Either way if you’re playing as a male or female character, I think we will all agree it doesn’t really matter as long as your enjoying yourself.
