Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley has surprised fans with a reveal for his brand new game Haunted Chocolatier. A shop sim about running a haunted chocolate shop and living in a spooky castle. The new title is a surprise to fans as Barone usually spends his time developing major free updates for his farm sim game Stardew Valley.
We only have a short two and a half minute trailer showing off the game so far, but you can check it out for yourself here:
For the past few years Barone has been talking about working on a new project, making comments about how his next game wouldn’t be a direct sequel to Stardew Valley, but might be set in the same world, or be related in some way. “I’ve been deliberately secretive about it because I want to be able to work on it without any pressure for the time being,” Barone said back in 2018.
Haunted Chocolatier definitely looks to be sticking to the same universe as Stardew Valley, but will be a different kind of sim game. Similar to Stardew, the game will see you moving to a new town and learning a new profession while meeting all of townsfolk, but will be more of an action-RPG.
Barone also explained how similar the games would be saying “But at its core, the gameplay loop involves gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop.”
In the FAQ page for Haunted Chocolatier, Barone said he had been working on the game for about a year now, and he isn’t ready to commit to a release date just yet as it’s still in early development. The game is being developed for PC, with the intention of bringing it to other platforms.
