Skill-based match making is returning in Cold War, insider claims

Alex KirtonBy Alex KirtonAugust 21, 2020

Call of Duty insider TheLongSensation claims that Treyarch and Ravens upcoming Black Ops Cold War will see the return on skill-based match making (SBMM) from Modern Warfare.

SBMM has been heavily criticised by a large portion of the Call of Duty community as many believe it does more harm than good.

On paper, making players play with people of a similar skill level sounds like a fair system, but in practice however many suggest it ruins the experience by taking away the casual aspect of the game. Many players have suggested a separate ranked and casual playlist to fix the problem.

In classic Activision fashion however, it doesn’t matter what the players think, it seems like it’s here to stay as Activision have yet to even comment on it despite many reaching out to them.

SBMM has been heavily criticised by the community so it’s a surprise to hear that it will be returning to Black Ops Cold War.

Tom Henderson, also known as TheLongSensation  has confirmed on Twitter that it will be making a return to the game, as well as being the exact same system that was implemented in Modern Warfare.

This will be disappointing news to most fans as many were hoping Activision would at least tone down the SBMM or implement the separate ranked playlists.

Criticism towards the system has been growing since the release of Warzone as many claim SBMM is even stronger in Warzone than in normal multiplayer.

Of course, at the moment this is all speculation and rumours, nothing has been confirmed by Activision and the chances are they wont tell us whether the system is in the game at all, so we’ll have to wait for the games release to see.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to be officially revealed within Warzone on Wednesday, August 26.
