The trailer has received a mostly negative reaction from fans.
Saints Row was revealed earlier this week during the Gamescom Opening Night Live Livestream, but the reception from fans has been somewhat mixed. Across all of the YouTube channels the trailer has been posted on, including the official Xbox, PlayStation, and Saints Row channels – the trailer has received thousands of dislikes, more dislikes than it has likes.
The backlash has spread further than just YouTube, most of the official social accounts for Saints Row have been receiving negative messages from fans voicing their disappointment. The Twitter account for the game has been replying to a few of these messages.
The most shocking (and now deleted) reply from the official account reads “haters gonna hate” in the form of a gif, later the developers responded “We are not backing down on this. It’s brand new, we get the knee jerk reaction” going on to promise that they have lots more of the game to show.
You’re probably wondering why the game is receiving so much criticism in the first place, it’s mostly down to the fact that the new Saints Row game is a reboot of the franchise, and that includes a lot of change. As well as this, fans have also question the new art style the game has, which seems to be a lot more realistic then past games. Other have also commented on the “bad” character designs.
In older Saints Row games, you played as a group of criminals who are high up members of a gang, the reboot sees you take control of a new character who must rise to the top of the Saints empire.
