In a recent interview with CNBC, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed the long-awaited release date of the much-anticipated video game, GTA VI. Developed by Rockstar Games, the next instalment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise has been in active development since February 2022, although official updates have been sparse.
Responding to a direct question about the game’s release date, Zelnick stated, “We leave the announcement of upcoming titles to our labels and we have said we have a very robust pipeline of titles and we have a great outlook for fiscal 2025.” He added that the company expects to generate about $8 billion in net bookings in the 2025 fiscal year. While Zelnick refrained from detailing a specific release schedule, these comments essentially confirm that GTA VI will hit the market no later than March 2025.
This confirmation follows several months of speculation fuelled in part by early gameplay leaks last summer—circumstances that were hardly ideal for Rockstar Games. Initially reported by GamingBible, the news has reignited excitement in the gaming community and beyond.
When questioned about GTA VI being touted as the most expensive entertainment product ever made, Zelnick said, “The Grand Theft Auto franchise is probably perhaps the most profitable franchise in the history of entertainment.” He emphasized Take-Two Interactive’s three-part strategy: “Be the most creative, be the most innovative, be the most efficient,” indicating that the title, like its predecessors, would be a highly profitable venture.
Although specific details about the game remain under wraps, Zelnick’s statement has given the gaming world a substantial clue about what to expect and when. With a launch window now in sight, fans and analysts alike are eagerly looking forward to what could be a ground-breaking addition to one of the most profitable entertainment franchises in history.
