Red Dead Redemption Rides onto Nintendo Switch and PS4

By Alex KirtonAugust 7, 2023

Rockstar Games is expanding its horizons with the much-anticipated release of Red Dead Redemption on the Nintendo Switch and PS4. With compatibility also extended to PS5 through backward compatibility, a new wave of gamers can experience the Wild West in this acclaimed action-adventure title. The game’s conversion is being steered by Double Eleven, a company established by former Rockstar developers in 2009.

Scheduled for an August 17th launch, this version comes more than a decade after Red Dead Redemption made its debut on PS3 and Xbox 360, followed by a massive sequel in 2018. The re-release isn’t just a simple port, though. Alongside the main game, players will be treated to the noncanonical Undead Nightmare campaign, where the protagonist, John Marston, battles hordes of relentless zombies.

Priced at $49.99 in both the Nintendo eShop and the PlayStation Store, gamers can look forward to grabbing their digital copies soon. For those preferring a physical experience, hard copies will be hitting shelves on October 13th. International fans haven’t been forgotten, either, as this release introduces support for several new languages, including simplified and traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish.

This re-release of Red Dead Redemption is part of a broader trend of video game remakes and remasters. Rockstar, known for its innovation, previously ventured into remastering with the Grand Theft Auto trilogy in 2021, a project that faced some challenges. Now, with Red Dead Redemption, the company seems poised to offer a nostalgic yet fresh experience to new and returning players.

Of course, Rockstar isn’t solely focused on Red Dead Redemption. They have been quite busy with various projects, including the confirmation of Grand Theft Auto VI last year, following a significant online leak. Fans of the franchise have been eagerly awaiting more details on what’s next in the world of criminal empires and thrilling car chases.

In conclusion, Red Dead Redemption’s launch on the Switch and PS4 marks an exciting time for both Rockstar and the gaming community. With the inclusion of special content, support for new languages, and a reasonable price point, this release is set to reinvigorate interest in a classic title. Whether you’re a fan of the original or looking to dive into the series for the first time, mark your calendars for August 17th, and saddle up for a wild ride!
