As the gaming world eagerly awaits the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, a sea of rumours and unconfirmed reports have filled the information vacuum left by Rockstar Games’ tight-lipped approach. Although Rockstar announced the development of GTA 6 in February 2022, they have yet to share significant details about the game, leading fans to speculate on everything from its settings to its storage requirements.
The parent company of Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, has recently hinted at a possible 2025 release date for the much-anticipated game. If this holds true, fans have a long wait ahead, further fuelling the speculative frenzy. What is confirmed is that GTA 6 is expected to be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
An anonymous GTA leaker has claimed that the game might require a staggering 750GB of storage space and potentially offer 400 hours of gameplay. While the prospect of 400 hours of immersive gameplay is enticing, the reported storage requirement could prove to be a massive headache for many players.
Console owners, in particular, could face significant challenges. The PlayStation 5, for instance, offers an internal hard drive of 825GB, but roughly 158GB is reserved for system files, leaving only about 667GB for users. With GTA 6 potentially exceeding this available space by over 80GB, PS5 owners might need to look for additional storage solutions. Similar constraints apply to Xbox Series X|S, albeit to a lesser degree, given their 1TB SSD internal hard drives.
“We have no issue with 400 hours of gameplay, as long as it can keep players entertained and engaged throughout,” reads a tweet from ‘GTA 6 News,’ the anonymous leaker who reported the file size. However, the leaker’s remarks underline a universal concern: Is 750GB of storage space realistic for the average gamer?
Many unofficial sources also suggest that GTA 6 will transport players back to a Miami-inspired Vice City and even feature parts of South America. Adding more layers to the intrigue, the game is rumoured to have two playable protagonists named Jason and Lucia, who are purportedly inspired by the notorious crime duo, Bonnie and Clyde.
The release of GTA 6 is still shrouded in mystery, and while the speculation adds excitement to the gaming community, it also raises practical concerns that Rockstar Games will need to address sooner or later. With limited official information available, all these rumours and speculations should be approached cautiously. Whether these rumours hold any water or not, one thing is clear: GTA 6 is shaping up to be a game that could redefine the boundaries of the gaming world, in more ways than one.
