In a move stirring conversations about diversity and inclusion, NexusMods, the popular modding platform, recently banned a Starfield mod that allowed players to remove pronoun options from the game. “Hosting this mod was not for us and it is certainly within our rights not to host content on our platform,” stated NexusMods to 404 Media. The company emphasized that their decision wasn’t political. “We stand for diversity and inclusion in our community and the removal of diversity, while appealing to many, does not promote a positive modding community.”
The decision was met with mixed reactions, some even amounting to threats. “A reinforcement that this has been the best course of action has been some of the hatred, vitriol and threats of violence coming from a very, very small minority of the community,” concluded NexusMods. “Frankly, we are not sad to see them go.”
While this particular mod won’t be available, NexusMods still hosts hundreds of other mods for the space exploration game Starfield. These include gameplay tweaks, shaders, and even some whimsical character patches, such as Garfield and Thomas the Tank Engine.
In parallel developments, Bethesda, the studio behind Starfield, is preparing to introduce several community-requested features. These include Nvidia DLSS support for PCs and an FOV slider, among others. Bethesda recently released a hotfix targeting top issues and promises regular updates in the future.
