Insomniac Games provides a closer look at what fans can expect from Spider-Man 2, slated for release on October 20, 2023. Recently, the game’s Creative Director, Bryan Intihar, shared exclusive insights into what the new instalment will bring.
“We’ve added Queens and Brooklyn this time, so roughly speaking the map size is about two times larger than the previous titles,” Intihar recently told Famitsu. These revelations come on the heels of a special PS5 console bundle, console covers, and a Dual Sense controller unveiled by Sony earlier this month, all dedicated to the upcoming Spider-Man sequel.
One of the most significant changes involves the game’s geography. Alongside iconic Manhattan, the game will now feature new locations like Queens and Brooklyn. Newly released screenshots offer a sneak peek into three distinct locations—Times Square, Coney Island, and the Grand Army Plaza arch in Brooklyn.

Web-swinging will also offer a more varied experience this time around. “When you play in Queens, there’s much more of a neighbourhood feel, smaller buildings, which is why the web wings work so well traversing in that area, where you can swing low to the ground if you want to, or you can fly through,” Intihar told the Washington Post. The Creative Director hinted at unique scenarios, adding, “We’ve prepared some unexpected situations we haven’t done before, like a battle on the river between two of the cities, so I hope you’ll look forward to them.”
However, not everything is a welcome addition. Due to copyright constraints, the Chrysler Building, a notable landmark present in the 2018 edition but missing in the 2020 spin-off, will not feature in Spider-Man 2. This omission has been confirmed by the New York Times, stating that Insomniac Games could not secure a copyright agreement with the building’s new owners.
In summary, Spider-Man 2 promises to offer fans a bigger, richer, and more diverse experience when it releases later this year. With an expanded map, new locations, and unprecedented gameplay scenarios, the sequel aims to take the Spider-Man gaming universe to new heights, even as it stays grounded in the nuances of New York City’s various neighbourhoods.
