In a significant turn of events, gaming giant Square Enix has declared an immediate end to the production of their upcoming game, Just Cause Mobile. The game will be removed from digital stores beginning July 3, 2023.
The mobile action game was available for early access on Google Play stores but has been abruptly pulled off. The highly anticipated game, initially planned for launch later this year, is now indefinitely shelved.
Just Cause Mobile was first announced at The Game Awards in 2020. Since then, it has faced a series of setbacks leading to repeated delays in its release. The game was envisaged as an engaging isometric shooter set within the Just Cause universe. Promising a full story campaign, a 30-player competitive multiplayer mode, and four-player cooperative missions, it had fans waiting with bated breath.
However, fans will be relieved to learn that Square Enix has issued a full refund for the game’s premium currency, Blue Diamonds. Players who purchased the currency during the game’s regional early access phase were refunded in full to their Google Play Accounts on February 24, 2023.
Just Cause Mobile was expected to be the franchise’s next big release following Just Cause 4, which debuted in 2018. The mobile game was meant to bridge the gap for the franchise’s followers, offering a new narrative experience in the wait for the next major installment in the series.
Square Enix’s decision to cease development comes as a disappointment to fans awaiting the release of Just Cause Mobile. Despite this setback, the gaming community eagerly anticipates the next offering in the Just Cause saga.
